The appearance day of Lord Balarama, Krishna's elder brother. The tradition honours Him as the original spiritual master and as service itself: whatever Krishna does, Balarama supports.
The festival falls on the full moon of the month of Sravana — hence purnima, full moon. In the temple there is special worship of the Deities, kirtan and a festive feast.
There is no fasting: on the contrary, Balarama Purnima is kept with feasting, and there is more prasadam than usual.
