Arati to the Deities
The festive arati (service to the Deities) — the most solemn of the week. The altar opens, conch and bell sound, the pujari offers the Deities a lamp, incense, water and flowers, while everyone sings kirtan.
It lasts about half an hour. People usually stand, but if that is hard you may sit by the wall — nobody will mind. And if you are unsure what to do with your hands, look at your neighbour: they are not sure either.
